Making Jesus Real
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
John 1:14
At our music seminar last week, the participants were asked to put Scripture to song using authentic Kunda music. When I heard a strange new tune I asked, “Is that really a Kunda song? I’ve never heard Kunda music like that!” What I was hearing was perhaps reminiscent of Native American or Asian tunes. It was something that I never heard before in Kunda worship services.
Pastor William explained, “It is very much traditional Kunda music.” He told me that the reason I have not heard it before is because all the Kunda churches are using melodies and music styles that are foreign to them. So, the songs we are writing now, could be the first time that a genuine Kunda melody was used to worship God.
Wow!! That made the song special. But more than that was the power of God’s Word in each song. This particular song used verses from the Gospel of Luke telling how Jesus taught us to love our enemies. It was encouraging to think that the precious words of Christ would be reaching deep into the hearts of the Kunda people. Jesus was going to be made real to them.
